Tom Rapid Mini Canister Filter C-80
Details
The Rapids Mini Canister is a compact and efficient canister filter. Providing 3-stage filtration, mechanical, chemical and biological, aerating and filtering the water every hour. The Rapids Canister Filter has a self priming, top mounted sealed motor with a flow rate of 80gph. For aquariums up to 20 gallons, the canister is lightweight enough to hang directly on the back of the aquarium. Mechanical filtration is provided by the replaceable floss roll impregnated with highly activated carbon. The floss roll is a dense, highly absorbent material that traps particulate material and debris. Chemical filtration is supplied by the exceptionally adsorbing activated carbon which removes dissolved organic impurities. Biological Filtration is provided by the Super Porous Ceramic Cylinders where beneficial bacteria work to remove toxic ammonia and nitrite. Ideal filter for Nano tanks and other mini-reef applications.

I bought 2 of these for a little project 10gallon and 2.5 gallon planted tank. The only mod I did was to take out the red flow indicator for more flow, take out the carbon pillow and replace it with a plastic pot srubber. Both filter run like a charm and work good for a small tank. You might see bad review but for the price and size is what your getting

The flow meter is not needed and causes it to be clogged easily. The connections are prone to slow leaks unless you are very careful.

Maintenance can be a chore as you have to disassemble almost all of the parts.

Replacing the hoses is a must and then it works decently.

Comments about Tom Aquatics Tom Rapid Mini Canister Filter C-80:

This little canister works great on small tanks. I have mine on a ten gallon. The filter is super quiet, sometimes I wonder if it's still running. The flow rate is just about perfect for smaller tanks. I prefer a mild current in my tank, so I drilled out larger holes on the output 'spraybar' now I have the perfect current for a ten gallon. Water quality remains in excellent condition. The only issue I've had is it's always been a litle hard to get flowing on startup, even when properly primed.

Comments about Tom Aquatics Tom Rapid Mini Canister Filter C-80:

Excellent, ultra quiet filter for a 10 gallon tank. This canister filter is easy to assemble, and contrary to reviews, fine to use with all included supply/return tubing. If you are an individual that can work with a gentle touch, this product will be up and running in minutes. It is very easy to prime, keeps your tank crystal clear, and is easily maintained.

A wonderful filter for a small tank. I use mine in a planted 20 and it has worked great. Surprisingly quiet.

The only negative I have noticed is that it seems to have lost a little discharge velocity since first started, even after cleaning. Maybe an impeller issue. Still runs great though.

Comments about Tom Aquatics Tom Rapid Mini Canister Filter C-80:

I have 4 of these little filters. I have them on 2 20gL planted shrimp tanks. I must say that wile reports of the tube connectors being fragile are accurate, but if you take the time and care to install them properly there shouldn't be any problems with them. Most reports of them leaking or breaking can be traced back to user error. I've had no issues with these filters and have been using them for over a year now. I started with just 2 on one tank and was so impressed I put 2 more on another tank. If you are looking for canister filter style non CO2 releasing filtration on a smaller tank, for the price, these can't be beat.

At present i use the filter on a 10 gallon tank
              containing Cobalt Blue Juveniles
It is very quiet when working and cleans well.
Unfortunately it clogs up every four days.
Cleaning is not as easy as manufacturer assures us
is needed. The whole thing has to be stripped down
              to get best results.
Only good for 5 or less gallon tanks

These filters looked like a good idea for some 10 gallon tanks I have but The 2 that I ordered leaked bad. It appears the lids are warped on these filters. The mfr sent me 2 new heads those leaked also so they sent me 2 new canisters they leak just the same. Overall these filters suck. The manufacturer should pull these filters off of the market They are plagued with leaking just do an internet search about it.I will be sending all 4 filters back to the Mfr.Do not buy this filter if you like to get your moneys worth.[...]
