Purigen - 2 L
Details
Purigen is a premium synthetic adsorbent that is unlike any other filtration product. It is not a mixture of ion exchangers or adsorbents, but a unique macro-porous synthetic polymer that removes soluble and insoluble impurities from water at a rate and capacity that exceeds all others, even Hypersorb , by over 500%. Purigen ; removes proteins, nitrites and nitrates, ammonia, and a broad spectrum of organics, yet its impact on trace elements is minimal. It significantly raises redox. It polishes water to unparalleled clarity. Like hypersorb, purigen darkens progressively as it exhausts, and is easily renewed by treating with household bleach. A 100 ml bag of purigen purifies and polishes up to 100 gallons of water for up to six months. Purigen is designed for both marine and freshwater use. Not to be used with any products with slime coat in them, this can cause the product to become toxic.

Comments about Purigen - 250 ml:

I love this product. I have used it for about 8 years. I only use this, floss, a filter pad, and bio balls in my fresh water tanks. I love that it can be renewed by bleach. I just leave mine in the nylon mesh bag and pop it in a jar of bleach and water. If it doesn't completely clean up, I do that a couple of times. Imho, you have to have two sets, one to be in the filter and one set getting ready for next time you change the filter. I always have a fresh, rinsed, dried bag ready to pop in at my filter change. It takes some effort, but it is a great value for the wonderful job it does in keeping my fish healthy and my water sparkling.

Comments about Purigen - 100 ml:

I followed the renewing instructions using bleach very closely. Several hours after replacing the purigen in my tank, my corals all looked very poor. I removed the purigen and changed out some water, but it was too late and I lost 8 of my scans. Fortunately I was able to save the rest.

Overall, good product, but do not attempt to renew using the instructions indicated on the packaging.

Comments about Purigen - 100 ml:

After reading the instructions and gleening feedback from other hobbyists, I opted to buy twice what Seachem recommended for my size of tank, so when it was time to regenerate the used portion, I had enough on hand to put into service right away.

As with anything aquatic, you will experience a learning curve maintaining this product.

Using two chlorine resistant mesh bags is more convenient because you can regen Purigen w/o handling it.

Damp Purigen doesn't pour very well. So I learned that trickling water over the bag will get all the Purigen out with little effort. Purigen will settle pretty fast, so you can pour off excess water if necessary.

I've been using this product for 8mo, and just completed my first regen. It was daunting at first, but I learned how to make regen #2 go quickly.

The product does what Seachem says it does. I use it in my canister. but you can also put it in an HOB. Very versatile! Thanks Seachem!

This product claims to signicantly lower nitrates in the marine environment. After using for over 2 months there was very little reduction in the nitrate levels.

I like the product, but based on the reviews elsewhere and the description, I was expecting to really be wowed by amazing water clarity. I suppose I already had great water clarity. I did see a quick drop to almost zero nitrates, which was super!

Comments about Purigen - 100 ml:

I use Purigen in my nano tanks. I think it's too expensive for big tanks. It does exactly what it claims, makes the water crystal clear and keeps nitrates low. It turns dark brown when it's spent so you know when to change it.

In my 5 gallon tank it works for about a month before it needs to be changed. For the price I wish it worked longer.

Changing out old Purigen for new Purigen is a pain if you reuse a mesh bag. The particles are extremely small and stick to everything. I always make a big mess. It works better if you use a stocking instead of a mesh bag that you can throw away instead of trying to reuse it.

The process to recharge old Purigen involves several steps and very time consuming, not worth it in my opinion.

If you use carbon pads in your Eheim 2213 then you would replace the carbon pads with Purigen. You should place Purigen at the very top just before the white fine filter pad.

No, Purigen can not be used with stress coat. I would recommend you use Seachem Prime instead of Stress coat as it will work perfectly with Purigen, more cost effective in the long run, and does more then stress coat.

This product is best to be used as directed. 100 ml with Seachem the bag in a filter or reactor. I wouldn't mix the media with other medias as it will be almost impossible to recharge the media if it is mixed with other medias.

Unfortunately I believe the media might be small enough to pass through the cartridge. If this is the case it may damage the filter.

I would recommend purchasing Seachem The Bag, put the Purigen in the bag, and put the bag in the G6 Cartridge.

Every aquarium is unique and certain factors may reduce the longevity of Purigen. In most cases Purigen can last between 1 - 6 months. It is best to inspect the bag every month as Purigen will give you a visual indication of once it is exhausted.
