The C-220 Canister Filter offers a complete 3-stage filtration with virtually no bypass ensuring complete water flow through the filter trays. Stage 1(Mechanical Filtration): Aquarium water is first filtered through the filter foam pad, which screens out dirt and traps particulate debris.Stage 2(Chemical Filtration): After going through the filter foam pad water is then filtered through the carbon filter bag, which removes odors, discoloration, and impurities.Stage 3(Biological Filtration): Lastly water is then filtered through the bio-filter balls and ceramic rings, which provide a large multi-faceted surface area for the growth of nitrifying bacteria. This filter also includes the filter floss pad, which acts as a water polisher, removing fine debris. Other features: Convenient Tote Handle, Quick Prime Button, Valve Block For Quick Release, Canister Lid With Lift Lock Clamps, Stack N' Flo Filter Trays, and Directional Flow Dish. i have used many hang on tank filters before, but this canister kicks butt. easy to setup and install. not any louder than an air pump and very versatile with the four media baskets. it is heavy when filled with water,( holds around 7 gallons). i would recommend this filter to any one with a larger tank.i would also use a c-160 0r a c-220 on any smaller tanks.

It last 9 months and then the motor quit. It did a good job until then and I have no other complaints. I had another brand prior to this and it is still running after 7 years. I had expected better out of Marineland.

Comments about Marineland Multi-Stage Canister Filter C160:

The pros and cons just about say it all. I have been using Fluval canister filters until now, and the C160 Marineland primes much better than the Fluval. I also like the hoses more on this unit, not ribbed!

This filter was good for about 8 months, until it started leaking. I will be returning it and hopefully will be exchanged. Barring an exchange or repair, I will switch to Eheim.

        Comments about Multi-Stage Canister Filter - C-530:

Have owned 6 of these, all three sizes for my three aquariums. I have had all for nearly a decade now and have only had to send one in for service due to general wear and tear. I can not complain about that at all. I have been super happy with the performance of these filters and the longevity I have seen from them. In my opinion from what I am reading based on the negative reviews on here 9/10 negative reviews are most likely due to user error. If you use this filter properly and do monthly maintenance on it including cleaning the hoses and motor housing you will have absolutely no issue. I love these, the flow rate isnt super high on them but this is because there is little by pass and ample water filtration through the media baskets.

Bottom line best filter I have owned in comparison to fluval, ehiem(very close competitor), and rena. I have also used a million(not really) hang on back filters and will never go back to them.

          Comments about Multi-Stage Canister Filter - C-530:

The 530 is very large but was easy to put together. Simple to maintain as long as one doesn't need to move it. When I plugged it in. I was very disappointed in the noise, as I read the theses filters were very quiet. It was not. I ran it for a week, hoping it would settle in and quiet down. It didn't. It could be heard from every room in our 2300 sf ranch home. I ran it for a week off and on . replaced the impeller. No luck. Just a very loud filter that I can't use

I use 2 C-360 on a 75g single Oscar tank, in addition to an Emporer 400. I have one running more for Mechanical filtration and the other running more Bio filtration. Each does the job great. These filters also give great surface agitation to help cycle oxygen in the water. Easy to setup and easy to clean.

          Comments about Multi-Stage Canister Filter - C-360:

I own two of the C-360's running on my 55gal and 46 bow front and am looking at getting the next level up for my 125 gal tank.
I was amazed by how clean my tank water became without constant water changes.
The unit is quiet and nearly maint. free. Replacement polisher and carbon pouches can get expensive. So I use 100 micron pads and media bags to replace carbon. With my smaller tanks (55/46) I change carbon about once a month and wash the micron pads and I'm back online. I highly recommend this product.

            Comments about Multi-Stage Canister Filter - C-530:

I bought the c-530 because i needed a big filter for a 150g tank with some big fish and heavy bioload. Didn't want to spend more than $200, so the fx5 and eheim 2262 were out of the question. the c-530 was very easy to set up and prime. it moves a lot of water and keeps my tank spotless. it came with media, but not much. this wasn't a problem for me because i always add media from other filters i have running to help get the bacteria growing in it. a little loud at first, but it is now a gentle hum... no louder than my eheim classics or renas. i have added/changed some media since initially setting it up and it was quite easy to do. very little mess and got the job done quickly. everything feels very durable. the c-series is a very good value. BEST BANG FOR YOUR BUCK! i liked my c-530 so much that i bought a c-220 for my 40g. i am also considering another c-520 or c-360 for my other 150g tank.

              Comments about Multi-Stage Canister Filter - C-360:

I own two of these filters, one is at least 6 years old and still going. Easy to disconnect, clean and maintain. The 4 layers of big media baskets give it lots of room for adding other types of filter media. I usually don't use the polishing filter and the water stays crystal clear.

The 2nd filter I purchased constantly kept on syphoning air from the priming pump about 6 months into use, however there were no water leaks, unless there was a power failure, it would leak a bit from the head. The 3 yr warranty is great: I contacted Marineland about this issue and they promptly shipped out a new unit! They stand behind their product.

              Issues to watch out for:
              - When priming, make sure you push the pump straight up and down and make sure it comes right to the top. It might splash a bit of water if it's not done right or too fast.
              - After a while the valve block may steadily drip when you disconnect the pump. Sometimes opening and closing it helps remove any debris.
              - After 6 years, the media baskets warp/bulge a bit, making them a bit difficult to stack properly back in the canister, mind you they changed the basket design slightly since then.

I'll be replacing the filter that is over 6 years old with another C360 as this one is showing signs of air syphoning from the priming pump.

I have done numerous media cleanings and changes and have not had one single issue with leaks, in my opinion they must be isolated incidents. It has great flow, very quiet and very affordable!

I owned these for years, best option is to buy bulk chemicals and filter floss versus the stock stuff. Buy bulk carbon, and media bags, the foam can be rinsed multiple times before replacing. I found the polishing pads to be ok, but bulk fine filter floss worked equally well if not better at a fraction of the long term cost. Don't give in to marketing and buy the media made for the filter. Use what works best for your application and keep your money in your pocket
