Jager TruTemp Submersible Heater - 300 W
Details
Precisely regulated, constant water temperature is very important for the comfort and success of your aquarium inhabitants. The Jäger TruTemp adjustable heater is an ultra-modern electronic thermal device offering today's best technology. Designed for use in both freshwater and saltwater aquarium, Jäger TruTemp fully-submersible heaters include these great features:
  • Shatterproof glass construction - Made with laboratory-grade glass, TruTemp heaters are free of pollutants, resistant to chemical and biological substances, and able to withstand extreme temperature fluctuations. Their glass jackets also enlarge the heating surface and ensure even heat distribution.

  • TruTemp Dial - Temperature can be precisely adjusted from 18° to 34° C (65° to 93° F). Using the TruTemp dial with readjustment ring, the user can recalibrate the heater for a precise temperature reading. Control accuracy is +/- 0.5° C.

  • Thermo Safety Control - This safety mechanism enables "running-dry" protection. The heater will shut off when removed from the water, and resume functioning upon return.

  • On/Off Indicator Light - This convenient feature eliminates guessing and enables the user to verify heater function without getting their hands wet!
Each Jäger TruTemp Heater also includes a mounting bracket and suction cups for secure and flexible placement within your aquarium system. Lastly, an extra long power cord accomodates most applications.

Amazing. Over the winter it helped me maintain a steady temperature of 79F in a 100 Gallon. Does it's job. Long lasting. In the winter I had it set to 86F but it was only heating to 79F, !**BUT**! I only had one heater though when I should have two on opposite sides of the tank. Once summer comes it heats to what it's set at. (Tank is in basement) Harder to notice in a tank.

I'm using this for my 55 gal tank and its perfect. The only problem I have with the recalibration. After a month of using, the temp on the dial doesn't really reflacts the actual temp of the water. I called back BigAl's and i was told to recalibrate the heater. The instructions is sent to me via email... it doesn't really show me the correct temp after the calibration. For example, the dial is at 83'F and the actual water temp is stable at 78'F. So, its off by like 5 degrees.

The product lasted only a few months, all of the foam insulation on the inside of the heater has evaporated, and the unit has stopped working. Big Als customer service was great, and will ship out another one.

Comments about Jager TruTemp Submersible Heater - 100 W:

inexpensive, and energy saving, but beware these are slower to notice temperature change than other heaters so if you are doing water changes and refilling the tank with a siphon that hooks up to the sink this and have a tank smaller than 100 gallons this might not be the product for you!

Upgraded to this from another heater, this one is much better. The calibration bothers some people but once I figured it out, I've realized how consistent this heater is. Very happy I switched over to the Eheim.

The only heaters I've ever used. Had 4 over 10 years and no problems what so ever. They just work.

I know people who go through heaters left and right while my original 10 year old Jager is still trucking.

Comments about Jager TruTemp Submersible Heater - 50 W:

Extermely accurate, can easily heat beyond suggested rules of thumb, double walled so breakage is not a concern. Fully Submersible, the suction cups work well but as with any device with suction cups can be removed by big powerful aggressive fish, if you have to use in the tank buy an extra set of the suction cups and it will be almost impossible for your big aggressive fish to knock off. I would not buy any other heater brand.

It's kind of confusing to use at first. The first time I used it the temperature on my thermometer didn't match the temperature on the heater, but all I had to do was recalibrate it and it works fine now. It doesn't stand out in the tank, so that's good. (It tells you how to recalibrate it in the instructions)

The Eheim Jager is 100% fully submersible. I am not sure if this unit will fit your aquarium but here are the dimensions 9.63" length x 1.4" diameter.

If the aquarium is located in a room temperature environment then it will do for a 20 Gallon, but if it tends to be on the cooler side a 75-100 watt heater would be best.

I have a 65 gallon aquarium I know the 150w will work, but I am looking at the 200 w, will that work? or is it over kill? because I might get a larger tank soon

                    A:

The rule of thumb for heater is 3 watts per gallon in a room temperature location/setting. 65 gallon aquarium will need 195 watts so the 200 W heater would be a better choice. It is not recommend to go too big on your heater choice.

This heater is quite large (physically) for the Fluval Edge 6 aquarium. You may be best using a Cobalt Aquatics heater as they have a more compact design.

                    A:

You will need roughly 900 watts of heating for a 280 gallon aquarium. Three 300 watt heaters spaced evenly across the back of the aquarium will work well. If you are running a sump, you are best to find a heater that is 800 watts or more.
