I have this running on a 45G Cichlid tank. The spray bar is a gret addition, and is fully customizable for the size and depth of tank you have. I would recomend using silicon tape for all the joints and any air leaks in this filter make a huge problem getting the flow rate up.

I've had the Eheim pro 3 Ultra G90 for about 6 months on one of my tanks, after my Eheim Classic filter died. It is reliable, and easy to operate. Apparently the pro 3 Ultra G series was an upgrade to previous versions that had a lot of problems with leaking around the seals or primer button. At least, I have had no leaks so far.

Biggest selling feature for me was the priming button. Priming the classic version can be somewhat of a pain.

Major hassles that I've found is that once it is stopped for any reason, you'll need to carry the filter to the sink and dump out the water. It will not prime otherwise, and no water will cycle in/out. So, if you happen to have a power failure, even if it occurs 5 minutes after a thorough cleaning - you will need to disconnect the filter and dump out the water...and unlike with the classic series, you cannot drain the water from the bottom...you must pick it up dump it. When you reconnect, water will flow down automatically, and can be started and primed again. Of course this means that you'll need to top up the water level in the aquarium again. The classic series did restart again after a power disruption.

This drawback would make this filter design extremely annoying for any times that frequent water changes are a must. Even if the filter is totally clean, you'll need to disconnect, open, dump water, reconnect... anytime the filter is stopped for any reason.

One time during the night, we had a very brief power failure. Knowing this filter's flaw, I dragged myself out of bed to get the filter going again. Another time, there was a power failure during the night when everyone was asleep. Didn't happen to notice until sometime in the afternoon that the filter was running with no water circulation. The other tank has a fluval filter, which always restarts itself perfectly.

I have it in a 224g tank. Too many fish in it so I wished they had a bigger filter.
Have had it 3 or 4 yrs. No problems.
    Works best using their media.

Comments about Pro 3 Canister Filter with Media - 2071:

Agree with other review that if you experience a power outage the Eheim Pro3 will not restart itself. All you'll hear is light puttering/fluttering of the impeller rattling like its not properly seated and bouncing around.

But I have added a solution which is a APC computer backup battery connected to both the Eheim Pro 3 and one air pump.
Success proved itself during the wide power outage in Ontario during the Dec 2013 icestorms.

Other than this the Eheim Pro3 works as good or better than my old Eheim 2215

Best mod I added was purchase an extra quick release disconnect valve that I can attach to top of outlet pipe for quick drainage water changes.

Great filter! I've been using Eheim products for years and they are quite simply some of the best products on the market. Being made in Germany (not China) says and means quality to me. The G90/2073 is easy to set-up, clean, operate, and you hardly notice it's running, because of the quiet motor. I look forward to my next aquarium project which will incorporate the electronic PRO E3 series.

Please think Twice before buying any Eheim Products.

From my own experience, they simply did not respond to Customer or technical support concerns. In my case, they totally ignored repeated inquiries for help.

The head of the unit was replaced once due to leaking. Yes, water all over my floor. Plus the unit takes for ever to prime and work properly once put into service.

I recommend that you DO NOT Buy Eheim Products.

Clean every 6 months or so depending on tank load.
Super quiet , don't even hear it running!
Can be heavy when full of water.

I have other bigger eheims...this new design is great. virtually no bypass, easier to prime, easier to clean. Otherwise, all the quality you expect from eheim...its super quiet and great for my overstocked Malawi tank. It was also easier to assemble and had more configuration options than the older eheims.

Eheim canister filters are the best on the market. They are more expensive but worth every dime. I have had mine for 8 years and only had to replace the rubber seal. Very well built and quiet.

                          Q:

Is it true that one needs to empty and re prime the filter in the event of power outage? This doesn't seem to make sense as my current 2026 and 2128 models the canister and tubes stay full of water if power fails. When power returns the filters simply start again. Why would this filter lose its prime if shut off?

This filter does not need to be re-primed after a power outage and should restart on its own with the return of power.

The filter will work, however it will need to be primed manually as the priming button will only function on aquariums that are filled with water. You can use a simple down tube for the outlet instead of a spray bar, but it is sold separately (item# 6719).

                          Q:

In regards to the Eheim 2075... I'm thinking about adding this filter to my 155gl setup (I already have 2 x ML C-530's in my stand and the 2075 needs to be able to fit in between them... I have about 10" of space) I'm reading that the filter with is 9.3" is this accurate?

What is the dry weight of the filter?

                          Thanks.

9-3/8" x 9-5/8" x 17-7/8" high are the exact dimensions of the unit. If you have 10" of space then it should fit.

                          Q:

I am starting up a 75 gal. freshwater set-up. I noticed a slight sales price difference between the # 2073 and #2075 models. The # 2075 has an extra media basket which interests me. Question: Will the # 2075 be too powerful for a 75 gal. tank. If so, should I stick with the # 2073? Thanks for your help.

Is this eheim the new ultra one? I can't find anywhere that says ultra but I saw in review ultra g90 or whatever. I'm looking at getting a 2071 which would be ultra g65.

G Series is the European Label that is given to the Eheim Pro 3 Units. They are the same and there boxes will show the G Series label on them however we label them slightly different.

Regarding the Pro 3 Canister Filter with Media - 2075 that you have on sale. I've read that some of these models have had problems with leaks. Has Eheim fixed this with later models?
