Details
Aquaclear provides thorough aquarium water filtration. Its flow path directs water to the bottom of the filter chamber to ensure total water flow through all the media. No bypass as water rises through the layers of filter material. This filter provides 3-stage filtration (biological, chemical, and mechanical). The manufacturer recommends this filter for both freshwater and saltwater applications.

I run 2 110's on my 125gal which I recommend so when you clean 1 you always have 1 keeping balence in your tank.I also run 3 smaller power heads.Just remember to clean sponge in tank water outside of the tank or non clorinated water. The 110 is very low maintenace and pumps a substantial amt of water.I've used Eheims for many years but they are more frequent maintenance and for that reason I prefer the aquaclear.

I purchased the Aquaclear 70 based on the positive on-line reviews. Upon installing it I noticed a significant amount of air in the intake tube. It was entering from the seam in the tube. The seam was not bonded properly. I contacted Hagen (by e-mail, they have no customer service phone)and they responded quickly, sending me a new intake tube.

The filter is a qood design with good performance, but I would be wary of the products quality.

Comments about Aquaclear Power Filter - 30:

I bought the AquaClear 30 for my 15 gallon column tank to replace the Aqueon QuietFlow that the tank came with. Within hours of installation the water in my tank was crystal clear. I love that the filter has extra room inside the basket for additional filter media, like additional activated carbon or Ammonia Remover pads.

The only reason I gave this filter 4 stars instead of 5 is that when I started it up, the little propeller in the motor was rubbing along the shaft on which it sits and making a low grinding/scratching sound. I found a video on YouTube that said this is a common problem with otherwise excellent AquaClear filters and said to add a little Vaseline or silicone grease to the shaft. It did work, but I worry that it is putting Vaseline into my tank water (although I guess it would just get filtered out?). I am also finding that with every water change or whenever I turn off the filter, the sound comes back and I have to lube it up again. That is a bit annoying, but to be honest, the filter is so good for what you pay I guess the trade off isn't that bad. One would think that Hagen would address this issue since it seems to be quite common.

Comments about Aquaclear Power Filter - 30:

I am using this smallish, quiet and effective power filter in an 18 gallon LR reef aquarium system. I removed the included bio-ball type ceramic growth media though; REASON I was testing and getting higher nitrate readings; removing them corrected the problem. I have this filter on a timer to shut off during automatic feedings and it never loses its prime even when being off for an hour at a time.

Comments about Aquaclear Power Filter - 30:

These are a very good HOB unit and well designed. They cost a bit more but it is worth the cost for the better quality. One warning: the impellers are so efficient that if you have any impediment to outflow i.e., a clogged output path out of the HOB casing - I will put a moss "waterfall" draping down the output lip and if this were to get clogged - the unit on the back could overflow out onto the floor, as the secondary pathway for water drainage around the input pipe is minimal, unlike some other brands. If you do not put any objects draping down the output, this would never be a problem, though, although too strong of current might be, resulting from the amount of flow if set at full flow (they are adjustable flow).

Comments about Aquaclear 20 Power Filter:

I have been using the aqua clear brand power filters for years on aquariums from 10 to 30 gallons and they do the job well. Although it's always recommended to use the manufacturers media, I find you can use Big Al Brand filter media products in this for a bigger savings. What prompted this purchase was a birthday gift (A 10 gallon aquarium) that came with a (to me)generic power filter. This wimpy thing has no flow adjustment, filter media that is designed to last 2 weeks, cannot successfully be rinsed and re-used, and has a only enough carbon to say it has some -- plus costs [$] each if you buy in "bulk" (3-5 filters). I had to replace it with a superior product.I like the fact in the aquaclear: -you don't have to replace the media every two weeks-you can replace the carbon separate from the crude filter-you can run it without the carbon if you have to medicate your fish-I've used a resin water softening product successfully with the filter in the past.-their is both activated carbon, and carbon/zeolite options available with aquaclear and Big Als filter media products-I'm not stuck going to a large chain store buying the brand specific media or trying to find filter media at Big Als that sort of fit.-I'm not stuck using their media (though it's not a bad price compared to what came with this aquarium).

Comments about Aquaclear Power Filter - 30:

Have had a pair of the 50's running in my 75 gal for years, never a problem. Can get generic/cheap filter media for them, but the brand name isn't even all that expensive. Have been very reliable and quiet.

My only wish for them would be self-priming, or at least a better anti-siphon. If the power goes out, a lot of time most of the water drains out and they will not re-prime, risking overheating of the motor. Luckily I've been home when this happens. Even a thermal overload protection would help alleviate this risk.

But honestly that's a small complaint or "nice to have", these things are great and a great value considering how durable and reliable they are.

Also, they're quite powerful, I have 4 extension tubes on one of these (model 50) to get stuff from near the bottom of my 20" deep tank and it has no problem pumping the water up. Near silent operation, unless your water gets real low and then it's just the splashing of the waterfall, which is actually kind of nice.

Comments about Aquaclear Power Filter - 30:

I've been using the Aquaclear 100 (now 20) for over 15 years bouncing it between a 20 and 29 gallon tank as needed. I haven't had to replace anything to keep it running strong (beyond the filter media). Does a really fantastic job for such a small HOB filter. Easy to maintain and you can use your own filter media selection, unlike most HOB filters. Just put your filter media in a fine mesh nylon bag with a plastic twist tie. Very quiet, but not silent like my Rena canister filter. Nice that you can adjust the flow for feeding, maitenance or whatever you need to do. I HIGHLY recommend these filters, they are great and that's why they cost more up front than the competition. But over the years you will save A LOT more by not having to buy overpriced proprietary filter media every month, or have to replace a discontinued product.

Beyond this I would recommend the Rena canister filters (quiet, quick cleaning, media options galore) and the increadibly trusty Marineland Magnum canister filters with the bio-wheel option. I've been using a 200 for 20+ years non-stop and a 350 for a long time as well. Not as media flexible (# of media varieties you can use) as some of the newer filters but their reliability is beyond bullet proof. And, in general, the bio-wheels seem to be much better than bio-balls or ceramic media from my experience. The micron filter option on the Magnum is always nice to use when you need to turn the water crystal clear.

I've used this and other sizes of Aqua Clear filters for 7 years now, on as many as 8 tanks at a time ranging from 10-150 gals. I think they are great. Once in awhile the cover will rattle a little but with a few seconds and a little ingenuity it fixes easy enough. Guests who see my crystal clear tanks are always amazed at how little time the tanks take to maintain. These filters play a big role in that.

One keeps my 55 gal Cichlid tank clean, the other my 20 gal livebearer tank looking good. I bought a smaller Aquaclear for my son's tank a few years ago and when my current filter lost effectiveness decided to try the Aquaclear 70 on the 55 gal tank. It is easier to maintain than the Magnum 250 and I expect it to last a number of years as well. Top cover is a bit flimsy and does not always sit correctly, though. I still use the M250 to simply circulate water with no filters installed, otherwise it clogs too fast.

This depends on what you would like to use. The filter comes with one carbon, foam, and biological media cartridge. It is recommended that the carbon cartridge be changed every 30 days. The Foam cartridge can be rinsed every 2-4 weeks and replaced every 3 months. The biological should be replaced every 6 months.

With a tank of that size, you would have much better results using a canster filter such as an Eheim 2217 or Marineland C-360.

                            No, it's against the law!

But yes you can, personally I would get a 110 for a 70gal tank.
